Sustainability has always been on the forefront of our company’s mission towards responsible tourism. The name “Windfall” reflects our belief that Tanzania’s natural landscapes are an unexpected fortune and blessing, something we have a duty to protect for future generations. We see safaris as a way to preserve both the environment as well as local communities around us. Along with this, we see tourism as a way to educate people, both local and foreign, on the importance of nurturing and caring for the environment we all adore so much. In an effort to further our sustainability as a business we try to ensure that we find the best local providers for just about everything we share with our guests.

This all culminated in us getting our Travelife partner status in March of 2026. The Travelife Partner award is a recognition of our commitment towards social and environmental sustainability. We comply with more than 100 criteria related to sustainability management, office operations, working with suppliers and customer communication. We are working towards further improvements aiming to eventually reach the Travelife Certified stage.
Travelife is a three-stage certification program for tour operators and travel agents: (1) Travelife Engaged; (2) Travelife Partner and (3) Travelife Certified. We are at stage 2 – Travelife Partner. We are working to move forward to stage 3 – Travelife Certified.”

All resources used during our safaris — from food and water to operational materials — are managed with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. For guests seeking a premium bush dining experience, we offer reusable canvas picnic baskets with ceramic plates, cutlery, and durable containers to minimise waste. At the same time, we recognise that many travellers prefer a more standard picnic option, so in Arusha we partner with a local supplier who provides biodegradable lunch boxes and utensils. This ensures that even our classic picnic setup remains as low-impact and environmentally conscious as possible.
Our goal is to provide safe, drinkable water without relying on single-use plastics — and we already take meaningful steps toward that. Each guest receives a reusable metal water bottle, personalised with their name and our logo, which they can take home after their safari. For refilling purposes, we purchase larger 6L water containers, meaning that on most safaris only one or two plastic bottles are used in total. These containers are carefully collected after use and supplied to a local recycling company, where the material is repurposed into durable, handcrafted furniture — many pieces of which can be found in the lodges and tented camps our guests visit.
Crafts and local shopping are meaningful ways to support the local economy while taking a piece of Africa’s beauty back home. We actively recommend trusted local artisans and shops, helping sustain talented craftspeople and directly contribute to the livelihoods of their families and communities.
