Our Company

Windfall Safaris was founded in Arusha, Tanzania in 2017 with a clear and ambitious vision: to deliver high-quality, sustainable safari experiences rooted in authenticity and care. Proudly family-owned and operated, the company has remained intentionally small, allowing us to build a close-knit team shaped by long-term mentorship, internal growth, and a deep understanding of our values.

The values which were instilled to us by our founder and director Emmanuel Kissila. He has been present in the safari industry for more than 20 years and has used the knowledge he’s gained to grow and nurture Windfall into what it is today. He’s an active naturalist and bird lover who loves to share his passion and knowledge with the guides and guests. Emmanuel is also a firm believer in sustaining the environment that has already given so much to him, he reinforces the mission to protect Tanzania’s natural environment in every member of the company from office to safari vehicles.

The name “Windfall” reflects this philosophy. A windfall is a fruit carried down by the wind, but it also signifies unexpected fortune. For us, it represents the extraordinary natural inheritance of Tanzania’s national parks — landscapes and wildlife we view not simply as attractions, but as a blessing and responsibility. This belief underpins everything we do, from the way we operate internally to the way we design each safari.

Emmanuel started with walking safaris at the age of 15 years old as a passion during his school holidays and as soon as he was able to drive, he was taking guests into the iconic national parks.

This family-centred philosophy extends directly to our safaris. Every journey is carefully tailored to the needs of each group. Our itineraries are designed at a relaxed, well-paced rhythm, allowing both adults and children to fully engage with the landscape, wildlife, and culture without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. By creating space for curiosity, comfort, and connection, we ensure that every guest, regardless of age, enjoys a meaningful and memorable safari experience.

A photo with my dear friend, Douglas, who I have had the pleasure to take on safari a couple of times. Douglas left us in 2025 after a brave fight against cancer. His influence continues to play a part in what Windfall is and continues to become. He won’t be forgotten. – Emmanuel
