Sustainability and Travelife:
Sustainability has always been something that has been on the forefront of our company’s mission towards responsible tourism. We see safaris as a way to preserve both the environment as well as local communities around us. Along with this we see tourism as a way to educate people, both local and foreign, on the importance of nurturing and caring for the environment we all adore so much. In an effort to further our sustainability as a business we try to ensure that we find the best local providers for just about everything we share with our guests.
This all culminates in our desire and active work to achieve our travelife certification. Travelife is an internationally recognised sustainability standard for tourism businesses that proves you’re operating responsibly across environmental, social, and ethical practices. This certification has been obtained by just 5 other companies in Tanzania. Our aim is to bring you the best tourist experience possible without being a detriment to the wonderful environment that drew you here.
All resources used during our safaris such as food, water, and operational materials are managed with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. In an effort to move away from disposable lunch boxes we invested in reusable canvas picnic baskets, ceramic plates, cutlery, and containers to deliver a high-quality, low-impact dining experience in the bush. This has allowed us to provide an option of having a recyclable lunch on our menu.
Our next objective is to provide safe, drinkable water to guests without relying on single-use plastic bottles. In the meantime, all plastic bottles are carefully collected and supplied to a local recycling company that repurposes the material into durable, handcrafted furniture many of which can be found in the very lodges and tented camps where our guests stay.
Crafts and local shopping are meaningful ways to support the local economy while taking a piece of Africa’s beauty back home. We actively recommend trusted local artisans and shops, helping sustain talented craftspeople and directly contribute to the livelihoods of their families and communities.
